Well-deserved accolade for our placement student

20 April 2016
We’re over the moon as we congratulate our full time placement student Alex Gore, who has won a Sheffield Business School Inspirational Student Award for his fantastic achievements.
Alex, a Business and Marketing BA Hons student from Sheffield Hallam University, has been undertaking a work placement at The Right Fuelcard Company since June 2015. His work with us reinforces our commitment to investing in, and developing, local talent.
Our Business Director Adam Walsh nominated Alex for an ‘Impact on an Organisation Award’ for the major impact he’s made on his account base – achieving an estimated 10-20% improvement in margin performance by the time his placement ends in June 2016 – and with little to no loss in sales.
His role at The Right Fuelcard Company involves Alex managing a dynamic customer account base with only limited supervision and support. His responsibilities include maintaining contact with customers by phone and email, and by working with our marketing department.
An enthusiastic and quick learner, Alex has used what he has learnt to segment his customers into better groupings, allowing us to improve service for our customers and boost margins.
Alex enthuses: “I’m thrilled with my award and am immensely enjoying working with a fantastic and highly proactive company with a tangible team spirit. I’d never previously worked in an office and it would be fair to say I was rather naïve about how businesses are actually run day-to-day.
“After over nine months here I’m comfortable working in a professional and upbeat environment and feel prepared for the post-graduate working world. My dream job is a role in the energy industry that allows me to travel, so this has been the perfect place to develop sector-specific skills and competencies.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at The Right Fuelcard Company for helping me learn, and to Adam in particular for nominating me for the Impact on an Organisation Award.”
Adam says: “Alex has excellent communication skills with colleagues and customers alike and has taken to the ‘day-to-day’ commercial side of the oil business, like a duck to water.
“Inquisitive and bright, Alex picks up the key points of business quickly. His hard work and attitude make him a popular member of staff, and I am not alone in saying it will be sad to see him return to university!”
This exciting announcement comes on the back of The Right Fuelcard Company having been ranked 34 in the Sunday Times Best 100 Small Companies to Work For, receiving a special ‘Discovering Potential Award’ for running The Bayford Foundation – and our business director Adam being shortlisted for the Young Yorkshire Company Director of the Year at the inaugural Insider Yorkshire Business Leaders Awards.
